There are many situations where we want to invite an entire group or committee to an event, and often we need to register the entire group/committee for an event.  If the functionality to group a large number of constituents together into a cohesive unit exists, I'm not sure why CRM would not want to leverage that to make event registrations simpler for users of the system.
