Would the new event form have the ability to split transactions into different batches. The additional donations would be in a separate ERB batch and event registration would be in an event batch.

This was shipped in 4.0 SP12.
At TCU, we'd prefer to have these split into three batches: (1) event registrations, (2) constituent updates, and (3) revenue. This corresponds to the three different teams/roles that are involved in the process and manage the information: event managers, data/records management, and gift processing.
